Made in the Shade. . .Copy Cat Challenge

Last Fall hubby and I took a road trip through Idaho and Montana.  While in Idaho I saw something that I have wanted to create ever since.

I’m sure that most of you are familiar with Mary Janes Farm.  Not only does she have books full of inspiration, but for the last few years she has had her very own magazine.

IMG_7486

I’m cheating just a bit on this copy cat because I didn’t actually see it in one of her books or magazines, but in her store.

That’s right folks, there’s a Mary Jane’s Farm store in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.  Fun whimsical store full of inspiration.

Do you remember my vintage lamp redo?

IMG_7385

IMG_7387

Well it needed a shade to go with it.

Last Friday two of my friends came over and we went outside and created a shade in the shade. lol!  I decorated mine with pieces of vintage laces, doilies, and old buttons.  Still thinking I might need to add some pearls.  I am showing a few pics so you can see all sides.

IMG_7481

Sorry, this one is a bit blurry.

IMG_7480

Mine found a home in the living room.  I’m wondering if I need to take down the piece of old tin?

IMG_7484

My friend Joyce wanted to make one using a weavers type muslin.

IMG_7473

Didn’t it turn out cute?

IMG_7474

Last October she made this one to go out on her porch for Halloween.  It’s full of all kinds of fun trinkets.

IMG_7471

Amanda wanted to make hers for her sewing room.  She decorated hers with lace and   sewing notions.

IMG_7476

IMG_7475

My shade is not the perfect fit for my lamp so I had to jimmy rig it to fit.  I will keep my eyes out for a better one, but for now I’m kind of liking my shabby lace shade.

Jann

Glory On Sunday Morning. . .

There’s nothing quite like a morning stroll thru the gardens.  Wouldn’t you agree?

One of my favorite morning blooms is those of the Morning Glory.

IMG_7413

Many people dislike the way they reseed and come up everywhere and anywhere.

That’s one of the things that I love about them!  To me it signifies:

1.  Determination

2.  Strength

3.  Resilience

4.  Reliance

That’s right.  Those blooms are determined to come back.  No matter how harsh the Winter might be.  Their resilience and strength make them a reliable welcoming bloom.  For that alone they can be commended.

Morning Glory

Although I must admit, it is a bit of a companion plant.  Always depending on something or some else to hold it up.  Believe it or not underneath this bounty of vine is a small Japanese Maple tree.

IMG_7411

And here it has climbed to new heights flowing gracefully throughout the branches of my Crabapple tree.

IMG_7409

I love how the blue and pink have joined together in this picture to twine amongst my soon to bloom Hibiscus.

IMG_7416

Love it or hate it, the Morning Glory is a sight to behold.

PicMonkey Collage

This is the original place that I planted the seeds.  At the base of an old dolly.  That was two years ago.  Never before have I gotten so much enjoyment out of a $1.29 pack of seeds!

Where There is a Will. . .There is a Way!

Hi folks,  today while at home working on my lamp shade I have been anticipating the birth of our 9th grandchild.

Baby Will, (short for William) should be arriving shortly.  Mom and daddy are at the hospital now.

I thought I would share with you his Woodland where he will lay his precious little head.

He’ll never be alone because all of his woodland friends will be close by.

IMG_7463crib

He’ll sleep peacefully under the shade of a big oak tree.

IMG_7448Tree

His mom and dad showed me a picture of a large vinyl tree that they had seen on the internet.  I told them that I could paint that on the wall for them if they would like.

I can tell that I have not painted for a long time because my hand was not nearly as steady as it use to be.

However mom and dad were quite pleased.  That’s all that matters.  They hung three shelves among the branches.

More woodland animals.

Look at these funky mushrooms we found at Star Mill Antiques.

IMG_7452mushrooms

His mom painted this canvas grouping and then applied the cute vinyls.

Daddy told me that they want to hang a branch with an owl in it in this corner by his crib.

IMG_7454 wall

This little shelf houses a wolf figurine collection that belonged to his mother.

IMG_7459

Who Whooo thinks little Will is going to like his room?

Just thought you might like to know that this was our previous home that our youngest son bought from us.  This room was my craft room and was painted a pale aqua color.  I love the two tone green.

I am working on something else for the arrival of our little guy hope to show you soon.

Just wanted to share this sweet pic of mama and baby Will.  Taken just shortly after he was born, July 27th at 8:34 p.m. 6 lbs. 10 oz. 18.5 inches.

So happy to have him here!

Hound Dog Crazy!

For quite some time I have been hound dog crazy for Hounds Tooth.  So much so that I bought this cute black and white ottomon.  Right now it’s in hubbies office, but I hope to use it in my craft room someday.

IMG_7466 Ottoman

Next I bought this green hounds tooth chair for my family room.

IMG_7465 chair

Then one day while blog hopping I saw this on the Sisters of the Wild West blog.  For me it was instant love!

photo 3 (2)

Then I remembered that I had purchased a sofa table at a yard sale last Fall for $20. Doesn’t she have nice legs?

I painted her white using a homemade chalk paint.  I mixed 2/3 white latex with 1/3 Plaster of Paris.  Covered very nicely.

IMG_6755 table

TThen following the Sisters instructions I marked the table in 3” squares and painted every other square green.   I loved the blue, but thought I would match my chair. At first I tried taping it off but decided it was easier to just fill it in with a large flat brush.  Then I cut a stencil (as per the sisters) and used it to give it the hounds tooth effect.

IMG_6756 table grid

Now it looks like this.

IMG_7443

After sanding I waxed it with Annie Sloan clear and dark wax.  One thing I found that if I got more dark than I wanted if I went back with clear it would take some of it off.

That is up to a certain point.  It turned out a bit darker than I wanted, but could not get it any lighter.  I will live with it a while and see if I like it any better.

Here is a close up.

IMG_7444

And after I decorated it.

IMG_7440

I I also painted and waxed this small architectural piece I bought from Star Mill.  Not sure what it came off of.

The bee skep I bought in Williamsburg, VA while on vacation 3 or 4 years ago. I love it!

IMG_7442

My table did not turn out quite as cute as the Sisters did.  I love their dark top showing through.  My table was cream and I was too lazy to paint it black first.

Still, kind of cute and happy to finally be done.  That is unless I decide it’s just too dark and I start all over again. lol

Share your Cup Thursday #18

Hi everyone and welcome to Share Your Cup!  This is the place you come to share what ever it is that makes you happy.  In other words, what fills your cup.

Each week you amaze me with all of the wonderful things that you share.  I had such a hard time narrowing the features down to just 5. But I think you’ll agree, these are pretty amazing. Also, for some of these the hubbies were involved.  a big thank you to them also.

I absolutely love this drink station made by  Bliss Ranch.  What a creative use of an old dresser.

And how about this entry closest by Kandi from Woven Home?  It went from drab to fab!

Here is another fabulous entry idea by Pernilla from Swedish Corner Down Under.  I LOVE the rustic corrugated tin!  Thinkin I may need to add a piece to my entry.

Look at this beautiful fern themed outdoor table setting by Heather from New House, New Home, New Life.  Doesn’t it look so refreshing for a hot summer day?

I’m already at four?  That means I can only choose one more, UGH!
There were a lot of vintage item link ups that I just loved.  I decided to choose one that was shared by a blog that had not been featured before.

Joy from A Vintage Green shared with us all of her garage and estate sale finds.  She found some real treasures.  Hop over and see.

Jealousy Will Get You Everywhere!

Yes folks, I’m here to tell you that jealousy will get you everywhere.  Well, maybe not everywhere; but at least it will get you into the mountains.

I’ve come to the conclusion (Elementary my dear Watson), that my hubby was quite jealous of my gal pal trip to Oregon.

Last Friday he said, “Do you want to go somewhere for the holiday or are you sick of traveling?”  “If you do, I will take Monday off”.  Now, hubby doesn’t take time off unless it’s a big vacation or he’s going fishing.

Tuesday was a holiday for us Utah people.  It’s Pioneer Day.  The day which we celebrate our pioneer ancestors traveling the plains and coming into this valley.

As we thought about where we might go, I remembered that the kids had given us a get-away package for Daniels Summit resort for Christmas.  We had planned on using it this Fall, but why not call and see if there was any availability.

We stayed for one night and the next morning rented RZR’s for four hours.  In case you don’t know, a RZR is kind of like a four wheeler, only safer.  Here’s hubby in our little rig.

DSCN0106

As we first headed up the trail we drove into a grove of quakies.  Isn’t this gorgeous?

Some of the sights we saw along the way is this rustic fence.
DSCN0096

This old metal thing.  Not sure what it is, but I would have loved to have brought it home with me.  I love planting in anything galvanized.  Can’t you just see a plant coming out of the top?
DSCN0097

How about this sheep camp?  You can hitch that to my wagon any old time.  We actually saw two more, but the battery on the camera had died.
DSCN0099
Wildflowers

A bit blurry but I loved the contrast of the b&w with the purple.  Even thistle look pretty growing in the wild.

DSCN0107

Hubby let me get behind the wheel.  Boy was that fun!

A couple more beautiful scenery shots.

DSCN0108

And then here we are at the end of the trail.  Now time to turn around and head back down.

Hope you enjoyed our little holiday adventure.
